2021 Scrap Metal Prices
When it comes down to it, mankind has always had an inclination for recycling. In medieval times, we took stone and rock from damaged castles and churches to construct our own homes. Blacksmiths melted neglected or deserted swords and armor to make new ones. Wooden pieces from damaged ships are used again, and it also goes for their metal parallels.
It’s the same with scrap metals. When recycling is conducted correctly, you’re basically getting the same metal as the natural version you would get from a mine. Scrap yards then sell their scrap metal by separating the metals first, and then selling off the different distinctive metals at today’s market price. The scrap yards sell the scrap by their weight, and they’re not dependent on what it was previously used for.

Scrap Metal Environmental and Energy Benefits
When we use scrap metal instead of getting it from mines, there are tons of savings in several ways. Recycling, in comparison to producing new metal from mines, provides:
- 97 percent decrease in mining waste
- 90 percent savings in the number of raw materials used
- 86 percent decrease in the air pollution created
- 76 percent decrease in water pollution
- 75 percent decrease in energy consumption
- 40 percent savings in the volume of water used
These are all considerable savings. When recycling steel, you save 2,158 lbs. of iron ore, 1,387 lbs. of coal, and 117 lbs. of limestone from current surplus. When you recycle 2,240 lbs. of aluminum, you save up to a whopping 11,200 lbs. of bauxite.
